NFL Draft 2008NCAA Scouting - Player Profile:
Glenn Dorsey, DT
by Sam Monson
26/2/2008

Glenn Dorsey has been a one man wrecking crew in the heart of LSU's defense, and earned serious buzz for Heisman consideration during his career. That alone should give you an idea of how dominant he can be on the defensive line. Dorsey now leaves for the NFL on the back of a dominant win by LSU in the National Title game, where Dorsey played as good a game as a defensive tackle has ever played.

Dorsey remains at the top spots of most mock drafts, and is vying with USC's Sedrick Ellis to be crowned the best Defensive Tackle.

Glenn DorseyComing out of East Ascension High School Dorsey was rated as one of the top three recruits in the state of Louisiana, and as the second-best prospect in the state by Rivals.com. Dorsey then went on to LSU and began to fill up his trophy cabinet for his performances for the Tigers. Dorsey and Sedrick Ellis are both excellent NFL prospects, but Dorsey is by far the more decorated of the two players at the College level, winning a rake of awards over the course of his career.

What we like about Dorsey

Scouts absolutely love Dorsey's blend of initial explosion and raw power which he can use in tandem to take over games. Dorsey is the kind of defensive tackle that demands a double team on every play, or else risk facing the consequences of him tearing through your line and disrupting the play. The ability to command a double team frees up his teammates on the D-line to play against only one blocker. He's also a warrior, and plays through injuries and the resultant pain. In 2006 he played with a stress fracture in his leg, and as a senior this season he refused to sit out games despite injuries to his knee and back.

Question marks about Dorsey

The injuries. Dorsey has had a series of injuries over his career which has led some to question his durability, but things really kicked up a notch in Indianapolis for the Scouting Combine. Although Dorsey is not working out, he was sent to hospital for further tests on the leg that he suffered a stress fracture during the 2006 season. This is a similar injury that caused Alan Branch to slip to the 2nd round last year, and has been termed a definite red flag by some NFL scouts.

Highlight of his college career

Dorsey returned to LSU for his senior season citing what he termed 'unfinished business.' The senior rectified that in the National Title game, dominating up front and allowing LSU to run away with the BCS National Championship.
