Q&A with 49ers' Takeo Spikes
by Michael E Lawrence
October 27th 2010

Takeo Spikes Q. Do you think there's any extra load on the defense this week with a new QB in place?

A. It ain't no different to be honest with you. Now Troy Smith's in, hopefully that will be a much needed spark and what we need as a whole. Coach mentioned this morning that you can't continue to do the same things and expect to get different results, so hopefully this change right here will be the spark that will energise not only the offensive side of the ball but special teams and defense.

Q. In Carolina in the fourth quarter, as the Panthers mounted their game tying drive, you were on the sidelines - how hard was that?

Takeo Spikes
A. Oh it's tough man. It's tough. I feel like I'm built for those situations, you know, so - what can you do? I think at the end of the day when a coach has his mind made up, then he's not gonna let another person change it, until he sees that, you know what, what we're doing ain't working and we need to make a change.

Q. Do you think things might change?

A. I don't know. The only thing I worry about to be honest with you is what I do on the field. I make sure I do everything I'm supposed to do and my motto has always been make every play I'm supposed to make. To me regardless of whoever is playing, that's how I approach the game, period.
